A Lefthanders Little Green Corner

Everyone wants to be eco-responsible. It's just a matter of doing it.
Stats, the whole Stats, and nothing but the Stats

This is NOT a political blog. It's a stats blog. Beautiful, wonderful stats. By total coincidence, today's topic is about the background colour of this page, green. Ok. the Green Party.
Since the birth of the vote, being elected to Parliament is imperative for an effective public voice. Is it? Joanne Chianello, in the Sept. 22 edition of the Ottawa Citizen, contends that "...to make a real difference - that is, to be elected..." skips over an important point. In 2004, the Green Party won 4.3% or 585k of the popular vote. In 2006, it went up modestly to 4.5% and 665k. And with this year's election they're approaching 7%. That won't win seats but it's huge. By virtue of popular vote alone, the Green Party will assert its influence on Canada's political landscape. How many ridings will be won or lost by the major parties because of the green vote? 16 at last count. Is it improbable that by the next election the number could be 9-10%? Would anyone suggest there's no correlation between greenness going mainstream and the voting booth? .....
